FAQ QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What gas is used in hobs?

When a gas cooker is switched on and working correctly, it will feature crisp blue flames around the hob rings and inside the oven. There are two gas types when considering gas cooker options, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with natural gas being the most common type.

Why do gas hobs need electricity?

For manual ignition gas cooktops & hobs, a lighter is used to ignite the burners for cooking purpose. Whereas for auto ignition hobs & cooktops, the knob is turned on at an angle where the burners are ignited through electric or battery. Today most modern gas stoves & built-in-hobs have auto ignition mechanism.

How efficient is a gas hob?

According to the IDAE, it is much more efficient to generate heat with gas than with electricity. According to available data, a natural gas hob only emits around 200 grams of CO2 for each kWh, compared with 450 grams generated by ceramic hobs or the 360 grams generated by induction hobs.

Will a gas hob work in a power cut?

In case of a prolonged power failure, surface burners can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn the control knob to the 'high' position.

Does a gas hob need a plug?

Make sure your current electrical connection (plug socket or big red switch) matches what your new hob needs. If your new hob is over 3kw, then you'll need a big red switch. If your new hob is below 3kw, then you'll only need a regular plug socket.

Which is better gas stove or hob?

Traditional gas stoves are limited to basic functions such as on and off. On the other hand, modern hobs come with an array of features that make cooking easy. To sum up, hobs are definitely a better choice over gas stoves for modern kitchens
